Quick Admission or Semester One Admission Requirements
Quick admission is a term commonly used to refer to semester one admission for the online program. Quick Admission is based on fulfillment of a portion of the criteria and document requirements for the program. For Quick Admission, the following documents must be received prior to acceptance:
- North Georgia/GeorgiaONmyLINE application for admission.
- Non-refundable $50 application fee.
- Copy of Georgia teaching certificate.
Teachers certified in states other than Georgia may be eligible. To qualify, you must hold the equivalent of a Georgia clear/renewable teaching certificate. Please contact the North Georgia Office of Graduate Admissions grads@northgeorgia.edu for additional information. North Georgia reserves the right to request additional information.
Quick admission students are eligible for many types of financial aid through North Georgia College & State University.
Regular Admission Requirements or Semester Two Admission requirements
Once admitted for Semester One, students must complete regular admission requirements. To continue in the program, the following documents must be received at least two weeks before the start of the second semester:
- Official transcripts from all regionally-accredited institutions of higher education previously attended. Former North Georgia students are only required to submit transcripts of coursework completed elsewhere. Official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES). Evaluations must include certification that the applicant has received a baccalaureate from a regionally-accredited institution and state a calculated cumulative grade point average.
- North Georgia Certificate of Immunization check the distance learning/online exemption.
Provisional Admission
Students who do not meet the regular admission criteria may be granted provisional admission pending a successful admission appeal (see Appeal of Graduate Admission). Students admitted provisionally may register for no more than six hours total of graduate credit. Student status will be reviewed to determine eligibility for regular admission following completion of six hours. Provisionally admitted students who earn a grade less than a B in any graduate course taken during the provisional period will not be allowed to continue in the MED program. Students who have been removed because of a deficient grade may reapply for admission by submitting a letter to the program coordinator after a period of one year from the date the student was removed. Provisionally admitted students are not eligible for financial aid through North Georgia College & State University.
Transient Student Admission
An individual currently enrolled at a regionally-accredited college or university as a graduate student in good standing may apply to North Georgia as a transient student.
- Individual must hold a clear/renewable teaching certificate.
- Individuals must receive pre-approval from the MED program coordinator before enrolling in courses.
- Requests will be considered on a space available basis.
The following documents must be received prior to admission:
- North Georgia/GeorgiaONmyLINE application for admission.
- Non-refundable $50 application fee paid by debit or credit card.
- Copy of Georgia teaching certificate.
- Teachers certified in states other than Georgia may be eligible. To qualify, you must hold the equivalent of a Georgia clear/renewable teaching certificate. Please contact the North Georgia Office of Graduate Admissions grads@northgeorgia.edu for additional information.
Transient Student Admission
An individual currently enrolled at a regionally-accredited college or university as a graduate student in good standing may apply to North Georgia as a transient student.
- Student must hold a clear/renewable teaching certificate.
- Student must receive pre-approval from the GOML MED program coordinator before enrolling in courses.
- Requests will be considered on a space-available basis.
The following documents must be received prior to admission:
- North Georgia/GeorgiaONmyLINE application for admission.
- Non-refundable $50 application fee paid by debit or credit card.
- Copy of State of Georgia teaching certificate. Teachers certified in sates other than Georgia may be eligible. Please contact North Georgia's Office of Graduate Admissions grads@northgeorgia.edu for additional information.
- Letter of good standing or Transient Permission Form documenting that the student is not on academic probation or suspension or on disciplinary suspension at the student's home institution. The letter or form should state that the student is in good standing and should indicate the course(s) the student is being allowed to take at North Georgia.
- North Georgia Certificate of Immunization check exemption for distance learning/online.
Transient admission is for one semester term only. Individuals who wish to return to North as a transient student for a subsequent term must re-apply.
International Applicants
F1 visa cannot be issued for a student admitted to online programs. Individuals living and working in the United States whose visa status permits graduate enrollment may be considered for admission. Please refer to the admission requirements in the front section of the Graduate Bulletin.
Appeal of Graduate Admission
A candidate whose application is denied because the graduate admission cumulative grade point average is below the minimum requirement for the program has the right to appeal the decision. An appeal must be made in written form to the School of Education, North Georgia College & State University, Dahlonega, GA 30597. The letter should clearly state the grounds for appeal. A student whose appeal is accepted will be admitted provisionally. Students may not appeal for regular admission.
