CRJU 4360: Organized Crime (3)

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the problem of organized crime in both the United States and on the international stage. The course will examine the origins organized crime, its history, and its relationship to other social institutions and components of the criminal justice system. The structure of organized crime and the various business of organized crime will be studied. Students will examine many of the new emerging organized crime groups and how the criminal justice system has responded to organized crime. The course will examine academic research in the area of organized crime as well as how organized crime groups have been portrayed in popular Hollywood films. Pre-requisite: CRJU 1100
