An introduction to English linguistics and some of its important subfields, including the structure of English (its phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics), psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics. Pre-requisite: ENGL 2050, ENGL 2230 and one ENGL 2100-level literature course, all with a grade of B or better.
