MBA General Admission Requirements

  1. North Georgia Graduate Admissions application and non-refundable application fee.
  2. Official scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), General Records Examination (GRE), or evidence of a graduate degree. Only test scores that are less than six years old will be considered.
  3. Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation done by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.(NACES). Evaluations must include certification that the applicant has received a baccalaureate from a regionally-accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 2.75.
  4. Resume, including three references.

In accordance with Board of Regents' policy, the following documents must be received two weeks prior to the first day of the term:

  1. North Georgia Immunization Certification form. Applicants seeking admission for an online program are required to submit the North Georgia Immunization Certificate form by checking the exemption for distance learning/online. If at any time students choose to take a class on the Dahlonega campus, or any other designated campus site, they are required to submit complete immunization documentation according to Board of Regents' policy.
  2. If applying for in-state tuition, proof of lawful presence in the U.S.

Types of Admission

There are five types of admission to the MBA program:

Applicants' grade point averages, GMAT or GRE scores, career goals, and work experience are used to select applicants for admission to an MBA cohort.

Regular

Students without a degree in Business but have an undergraduate degree from a regionally-accredited college or university.

Students with a degree in Business from a university with separate accreditation for business who supply all necessary application materials and who meet cohort requirements.

Irregular

Same as above but without GMAT or GRE scores.

Same as above but without GMAT of GRE scores.

Provisional

No provisional status for MBA Program with Foundations is available.

Students who have the potential to be successful in the MBA program, but do not meet cohort requirements.

Irregular Admission

Students admitted under an irregular admission type may register for no more than a total of six hours of graduate credit. Irregularly admitted students should schedule an appointment with the MBA academic advisor for individual advisement. Student status will be reviewed to determine eligibility for regular admission upon receipt of official GMAT or GRE scores. Scores must be received prior to the first day of the term for which review of admission status is to be conducted. Irregularly admitted students are not eligible for financial aid.

Provisional Admission

Students admitted provisionally may register for no more than a total of six hours of graduate credit. Provisionally admitted students should schedule an appointment with the MBA academic advisor for individual advisement. Student status will be reviewed to determine eligibility for regular admission following completion of six hours. Provisionally admitted students who earn a grade less than a B in any MBA course taken during the provisional period will not be allowed to continue in the MBA program. Students who have been removed because of a deficient grade may petition by letter to the Dean of the Mike Cottrell School of Business for re-admission as a provisional student in the next available cohort. Provisionally admitted students are not eligible for financial aid.

Non-Degree Admission

Individuals interested in taking graduate MBA courses, but do not want to pursue a graduate degree, may apply for admission as a non-degree graduate student. Individuals must receive pre-approval from the MBA program director before enrolling in courses and may register for no more than a total of six hours of graduate elective credit.

The following documents must be received prior to admission:

  1. North Georgia Graduate Admissions application and non-refundable application fee.
  2. Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended with at least a 2.75 (4.0 scale) overall cumulative GPA calculated in accordance with North Georgia's Graduate Admissions procedures. Official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation done by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES). Evaluations must include certification that the applicant has received a baccalaureate from a regionally-accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 2.75.
  3. Official scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), General Records Examination (GRE), or evidence of a graduate degree. Only test scores that are less than six years old will be considered.

In accordance with Board of Regents' policy, the following documents must be received two weeks prior to the first day of the term:

  1. North Georgia Immunization Certification form. Former North Georgia students are required to submit only proof of a tetanus booster within the last ten years.
  2. If applying for in-state tuition, proof of lawful presence in the U.S.

Non-degree students wishing to apply for degree-seeking admission to the MBA program must notify the program director, submit a new application, and meet all program admission requirements. All elective credit to be applied toward a degree must be approved by the MBA program director.

Any graduate course taken as a non-degree admitted student in which the grade earned was less than a B will not be accepted by the MBA program as an elective. Non-degree admitted students are not eligible for financial aid.

Transient Student Admission

An individual currently enrolled at a regionally-accredited college or university as a graduate student in good standing may apply to North Georgia as a transient student. Individuals must receive pre-approval from the MBA program director before enrolling in courses. Requests will be considered on a space-available basis.

The following documents must be received prior to admission:

  1. North Georgia Graduate Admissions application and non-refundable application fee.
  2. Letter of good standing or Transient Permission for documenting that the student is not on academic probation or suspension or on disciplinary suspension at the student's home institution. The letter or form should state that the student is in good standing and should indicate the course(s) the student is allowed to take at North Georgia.

In accordance with Board of Regents' policy, the following documents must be received two weeks prior to the first day of the term:

  1. North Georgia Immunization Certification form. Former North Georgia students are required to submit only proof of a tetanus booster within the last ten years.
  2. If applying for in-state tuition, proof of lawful presence in the U.S.

Transient admission is for one term only. Individuals who wish to return to North Georgia as a transient student for a subsequent term must re-apply to North Georgia.

Admissions Requirements for International Students and Non-Native English Speakers

Applicants whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. Minimum acceptable scores on the TOEFL are 550 on the paper version; 213 on the computer version; 79 on the Internet version; or 6.5 on the IELTS. This language proficiency requirement is waived for international students who have received a degree from a regionally-accredited institution in the U.S. or from institutions in countries where English is the primary language.

International students who are required to take more than six semester hours or who are not allowed to work are not eligible for this program.

Appeal of Graduate Admission

A candidate whose application is denied has the right to appeal the decision. Appeals must be made in written form to the Master of Business Administration Program, Mike Cottrell School of Business, North Georgia College & State University, 82 College Circle, Dahlonega, GA 30597-1001. The letter should clearly state the grounds for appeal. Students whose appeals are accepted will be admitted provisionally and are not eligible for financial aid while enrolled with this status. Students may not appeal for regular admission.
